Contest Rules
1. ENTRY PERIOD: April 5-22, 2010. For the 300 schools that receive confirmation of free canvas, mural canvas will be shipped to the address provided by April 16, 2010. Digital image(s) of the mural must be emailed to: cleanwater@wylandfoundation.org. Please include "OCEANS Classroom Mural Contest Entry" in the subject line. Include teacher's full name, school, grade level, subject, number of students, mailing address, email, and phone number in the body of the email response, and a photo of the students with the mural if available. The winning mural will be announced on April 28, 2010.
2. ELIGIBILITY: The contest is open to all United States-based classrooms, grades 5-8. Employees of Wyland Worldwide, The Wyland Foundation, subsidiaries and affiliated companies as well as their immediate family members (spouses, parents, siblings, and children) are not eligible. The contest is subject to all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations and is void where prohibited by law.
3. RULES OF ENTRY: Each class may submit one entry, and the mural must be painted by students only. If it is determined that an adult painted on the mural, the entry will be disqualified. Limit one free mural canvas per school. Neither the Wyland Foundation, sponsor, nor Disneynature ("Prize Provider") is responsible for any lost, late, incomplete, invalid, unintelligible, or misdirected entries. Winning submissions will become the property of The Wyland Foundation. By entering the contest you agree that the Wyland Foundation and associated partners have the right to display, copy, distribute and otherwise use the artwork as it sees fit without any fee or other form of compensation. The subject matter for the mural must express the beauty of the ocean world and/or the need to protect it. Themes may include, but are not limited to: clean water, biodiversity, ocean habitats, and marine life. The mural may be representational, abstract and/or include mixed media.
4. AGREEMENT TO RULES: By entering the contest, you fully and unconditionally agree to and accept the rules as outlined herein and agree to accept the decisions of The Wyland Foundation, its partners, and the contest judges which are final and binding.
5. JUDGING CRITERIA: Entries must meet all rules and submission criteria as stated herein to be eligible. Entries will be evaluated by a panel of judges. The murals will be judged on artistic merit, creativity, and effective communication of the message.
6. PRIZES: Winning classroom will receive a grand prize of $1,500 in Fredrix Artist Canvas, $500 cash for art supplies, movie tickets for the class (up to 30) to see Disneynature OCEANS at their local theatre, and a signed and numbered limited edition lithograph from Wyland. Second place class will receive EcoUsable reusable water bottles for the entire class (up to 30) from Disneynature and "Hold Your Water: 68 Things You Need to Do To Keep Your Planet Blue" books by Wyland for the entire class. Third place class will receive EARTH on DVD; OCEANS movie posters for the entire class (up to 30); and Wyland mini-prints for the entire class (up to 30). Entrants (and, in the case of minors, their parents or legal guardians) agree that the Sponsors and the Prize Provider: (a) will not be responsible or liable for any losses, damages or injuries of any kind resulting from participation in the Contest or any Contest-related activity, or from entrants' acceptance, receipt, possession and/or use or misuse of the Prize(s), and (b) have not made any warranty, representation or guarantee express or implied, in fact or in law, with respect to the Prize(s), including, without limitation, to such Prize's quality or fitness for a particular purpose, and the Prizes are provided "AS IS." Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, Sponsors and the Prize Provider are not responsible for incomplete, illegible, misdirected, misprinted, late, lost, damaged, or stolen Submissions, Submission or prize notifications.
