History of the Atlanta, Georgia Wyland Whaling Wall 50
-Atlanta’s Right Whales
Atlanta was the milestone everyone traveling on the East Coast Tour was waiting for. Not only would it be one of the largest murals in the country, but it would also be Wyland’s 50th Whaling Wall, the halfway point in the goal of reaching 100 murals around the world.
“Atlanta is where the 1996 Olympics will be held, and this mural, with its exceptional size and location, should be very visible to millions of people,” Wyland says of the 450-foot, seven-story Whaling Wall. Painted on the side of Underground Atlanta, adjacent to the World of Coke museum, the gigantic mural portrayed four massive right whales swimming in a vast blue ocean. One of the whales is suspended upright, spy hopping for a look above the surface.
