At his 15-year high school reunion, Wyland was asked by his former high school principal, Jim McCann, to paint a mural for his Alma Mater. Wyland agreed. After presentations to Lamphere High School and Page Junior High School students, Wyland and a group of art students began painting Whaling Wall 25.
Wyland taught his mural technique to the students as they completed the painting on a large wall overlooking the school’s swimming pool, The mural was finished in an 18-hour marathon, attended by hundreds of Wyland’s former classmates and teachers, as well as his dad.
“It felt great to give something back to my school and share my work with the young artists,” Wyland says proudly. His name established an art scholarship to support and encourage aspiring young artists.
