“I have had the great fortune and pleasure of spending many years studying the orca whales off Vancouver Island. The misty cool waters are home to many families, or pods, of killer whales. These pods consist of many generations of family members. The dominant male is identified by his huge dorsal fin, which sometimes reaches six feet in height. Northern Mist depicts a pod of 16 orcas traveling in harmony under a hazy morning light.” Wyland. This is the center image of a large scale tryptic painting.
